With the dramatic change in Congress at the midterm elections, President Bush has become pressured to find a new blueprint for Iraq and hopes to do so as he meets with Prime Minister Maliki in Amman, Jordan in a two-day summit hosted by Jordan's King Abdullah. PM Maliki comes to the meeting under the threat that his Iraqi government could fall apart if the radical Islamic cleric Muqtada al-Sadr follows through on his threat to pull his political alliance out of the Maliki government if the PM goes ahead with the meeting with President Bush.
Jordan's King Abdullah urged Iraq to seek unity, calling on Iraq's religious and political leaders not to allow their country to disintegrate, which he said could have a devastating affect on the entire Middle East region.
Jimmy's Prophetic Prospective on the News
The Jordan summit between President Bush and PM Maliki will not only have great political significance, but even greater prophetic significance. The deteriorating situation in Iraq demands a new course be taken in order to bring the country out of the chaos and into some kind of stability. Otherwise, as King Abdullah stated, it could effect the entire Middle East.
Under pressure to restore order to Iraq, both Bush and Maliki must develop a plan for this war-torn nation to rebuild. This task seems impossible with the conflicting agendas of the body politic of Iraq. This scenario today is setting the stage for the prophetic scenario for the future that can be found in Bible prophecy.
Modern day Iraq is biblical Babylon. God's prophetic Word has much to say about the future for Babylon. The ultimate bottom line for Iraq is total destruction - never to be rebuilt, (Isaiah 13 & 14, Jeremiah 50 & 51, and Revelation 16 & 18). However, before the final destruction of Babylon, Iraq must come to power as the economic, political, and governmental center of the world, (Revelation 18). Revelation 17:17 states that God uses world leaders to accomplish His will. Possibly, the Bush-Maliki summit will set the stage for Bible prophecy to be fulfilled.
