JD: Moses would have been literate; he would have had Hebrew in an alphabet with it in order to be able to write these five books of the beginning of the Old Testament, the Torah. How important was the development of Hebrew then into an alphabetic language in the course of history?
DJ: I would go so far as to say God sovereignly introduced this into human civilization and it would be impossible to over state the importance of an alphabetic language. In fact, the first two letters of the Hebrew alphabet are Aleph and Bet, which was where we get the term alphabetic language even for our own alphabetic language of English.
In fact in the movie he points out that if you were to write
the Torah, the Pentateuch in Egyptian hieroglyphics it would be many many times
longer maybe dozens or hundreds of times longer than it currently is. So the
alphabetic language reduced for example in English to 26 letters, Hebrew even
less than that. You’re able to write hundreds of different words in an
alphabet.
When you get to Deuteronomy chapter 6 which is after 40
years in the wilderness wonderings Moses tells the children of Israel to write
these things down and to have them with them. So that means that the entire
nation of Israel or at least a large percentage was already literate which
would only have been possible through an alphabetic language.
JD: How important do you think it is for us to accept the mosaic
authorship of the Torah and the Biblical record concerning the timing of the Exodus
in history itself?
DJ: Well in John chapter 5 Jesus said that if you had believed
Moses you would believe me because he wrote about me. So Jesus quoted and
believed that Moses was the author of the Pentateuch. The Pentateuch is quoted
hundreds of times throughout the New Testament. And both the Old Testament
authors, the Prophets and the Apostles all believe that Moses was the author of
the Pentateuch and it lays the foundation for everything we understand about
the Bible from the creation through the establishment of the nation of Israel,
God’s purposes in history. Everything builds upon what Moses recorded.
JD: David James with his Bible in his hand as he explained why
the authorship of the Torah, the first five books of the Old Testament is so
important.
We report this information because it is setting the stage
for Bible prophecy to be fulfilled.
This movie review by David James on the documentary, The Moses
Controversy is a must see movie. But at the same time please do not forget that
God’s word is absolute on the authorship of the entire Bible not only the first
five books of God’s holy word, that’s II Timothy 3:16. All scripture is given
by God.
