Olmert Resigned - New Israeli Government Planned

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who is facing a number of corruption allegations, formally tendered his resignation to President Shimon Peres, making good on a promise to resign as soon as his political party, Kadima, had selected a new leader.

Last week, the Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni barely beat out the Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz, to take leadership of Kadima. Ms. Livni now has 6 weeks to form a coalition government, which, in turn, would name Livni as Prime Minister. She would be the first female prime minister of Israel since Golda Meir.

Former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netayahu, leader of the opposition Likud party, has been calling for Israel to go to early elections, especially in these troublesome times.

Another change in the leadership of the Israeli government is evidence that God is in charge, and has a prophetic plan that will be played out

The Prime Minister of Israel is the leader of the Jewish state. With the possibility of facing indictment for corruption charges, the current PM, Ehud Olmert, thought it best to step down to deal with his legal problems. This made way for new leadership in his Kadima party and for a new government to be formed in Israel. The question is, will it be more of the same failed leadership of the Olmert government, which was marked with the humiliating lose to Hezbollah in the summer war of 2006.

The Palestinians are pleased with the prospect of Tzipi Livni as Prime Minister since she has been the one negotiating the division of Jerusalem and the evacuation of the Jewish settlements in order to establish a Palestinian state.

As a student of Bible prophecy, one can see these developments as evidence that God is in charge and is using human governments to set the stage for His prophetic scenario to be fulfilled. God establised human government 4500 years ago, (Genesis 9:6). God puts political leaders in place that He wants to be there, (Romans 13:1). God uses human government to bring about His will in the End Times, (Revelation 17:17).
