The senior Palestinian Authority negotiator Saeb Erekat has criticized Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu for mentioning the Jewish people's historic ties to Jerusalem as described in the Bible and accused the prime minister of using the Bible to incite hatred and fear. The Israeli Prime Minister made reference to the numerous biblical references to Jerusalem while addressing the Israeli Knesset in a session honoring Jerusalem Day, the anniversary of the day on which Israel's capital was reunited after almost 200o years.
Jimmy's Prophetic Prospective on the News
A Palestinian leader saying that the Bible does not prove the Jewish connection to Jerusalem is not only a lie but it denies God's prophetic plan for the future for this city as well.
The reaction to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu using the Bible in his defense of a Jewish presence in Jerusalem for thousands of years and their present day right to be there by the leaders of the Palestinian Authority are actually in the face of Biblical historic fact. Netanyahu also brought out in his speech honoring Jerusalem Day, the day marking the reunification of Jerusalem after 2000 years that the word "Jerusalem" is never mentioned in the Koran or any other religious book. In the English Bible the word "Jerusalem" is used 764 times both in the Old Testament and the New Testament.
Historically, the Jewish King David captured the Jebusite stronghold of Jerusalem 3000 years ago and made it the political capital of the Jewish people (II Samuel 5). King David brought the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem several years later and declared that the holy city was also the spiritual capital of the Jewish people as well (II Samuel 6). God actually made a promise to King David that Jerusalem would be the eternal capital of the Jewish people when he brought them back into the land for good. That is confirmed within the Davidic Covenant which is found in II Samuel 7. The prophet Jeremiah in Jeremiah 33 says that God cannot break the Davidic Covenant unless you can get rid of the sun, the moon, and the stars.
Prime Minister Netanyahu was indeed correct. Bible prophecy has been in the past and in the future will be fulfilled.
