JD: Is Stanley right that these Ten Commandments were exclusively for Israel that they have no application in the church today? And then the continuation of that thought was that the actual purpose of the decisions made by the Jerusalem Council found there in Acts chapter 15?
DJ: The Ten Commandments are first set fourth in Exodus chapter 19, which is at the beginning of God giving the Law to Moses. But in my course God’s Plan Through the Ages one of the things that I point out is that as you go from dispensation to dispensation you have both continuity and discontinuity just like you have with Presidential administrations in the United States. Some laws change, some are added, some are taken away, things are done differently, and some things are done in the same way.
The Law of Moses was instituted beginning in Exodus 19 but I
pointed out of the Ten Commandments it was not ok to worship other God’s before
Exodus 19, it wasn’t ok to commit adultery, to lie, cheat, and steal. And also
when we think about on our side of the Law of Moses on this side of the cross
Jesus fulfilled the Law of Moses. But that doesn’t mean that we don’t have any
obligations because it’s still not ok to worship other God’s, make grave in
images, lie, cheat, steal, and commit adultery.
The point is this, the Ten Commandments reflect the very character
of God. And I think what Andy Stanley has failed to do and some other dispensationalist
have failed to do is failed to recognize the difference between ceremonial civil
and moral aspects of the law and the Ten Commandments reflect the heart and the
character of God and they are morally binding and they transcend all
dispensations in my view.
JD: David James with Bible in hand explaining the story behind
the report that mega church Pastor Andy Stanley says that the Ten Commandments
have no application for the church today.
We report this information because it is setting the stage
for Bible prophecy to be fulfilled.
This report on Andy Stanley is not an attack but simply a
report on the truth of God’s word for the church today and for individual
Christians. The Ten Commandments is a standard that no one can keep. It’s a
mirror of our lives that chose each of us of our need for someone to pay the penalty
for breaking any of these Ten Commandments. That person who paid the price was
Jesus Christ, I Corinthians 15:1-5.
Jesus is with his death, burial and resurrection the power
that gives us salvation, all of us who believe his word, Romans 1:16.
