JD: Let's now get to the differences between astronomy and astrology.
DD: Well these two words astronomy and astrology are often confused and yet they are very different areas. Astronomy is a creditable study of creation. The root of that word astronomy would be a study of the stars, their size, their motion, their distance. It's called astro physics and its a wonderful aspect of creation to study. The other word astrology that involves the belief that there's an influence of the stars that some how they control our destiny. Then you get into the horoscopes and the zodiac and all of those kind of details and that is not an area to join in with at all. Of course scripture tells us to stay away from bowing down to the stars or counting on them for the information.
JD: God does not want satanic influence in the heavenlies trying to use it as a way of communications does He?
DD: Well that's very true. Now Jimmy it is interesting that the constellations, the stars they do have figures. There are shapes that have been well know to history. There's a lion sometimes connected with the lion of Judah. There's a virgo the virgin which has been connected with the first Christmas. That might have some value in the early history of course today we have God's word. We have a sure story so we don't need the stars anymore.
JD: And as you a scientist and an astronomer study the stars and study the heavens and excite some of us to be amateur astronomers. I can look up into the heavenlies and I see the glory of the Lord, Psalm 19. So that excites me and that's a real study. We can study astronomy can't we?
DD: Well we certainly can. The fact is Jimmy 99 plus precent of this physical universe is over our heads. We have many treasures on the Earth but the sky as well goes on and on. Just to see the great variety, the endless distances, and galaxies and details it's a great hobby to keep looking up.
