Iranian President Ahmadinejad, defiant as ever, said in a speech delivered in response to the United Nation's deadline for the cessation of the development of a nuclear Weapon of Mass Destruction (WMD) that Iran will not yield to pressure and in fact Iran will not back down one inch and will not be deprived of its rights.
The UN set an August 31st deadline for Tehran to suspend all Uranium enrichment and reprocessing activities even as the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) have repeatedly warned that failure to meet the deadline would result in the possible implementation of sanctions on Iran. Western powers accuse Iran of having a covert nuclear development program that could produce a nuclear WMD within the next several years.

Now, another deadline has come and passed and Iran is as defiant as ever and in fact moved more quickly to a time when they will possess a nuclear WMD. World leaders say there is no way there can be a world that includes a nuclear empowered Iran.
The world is watching as this story continues to unfold, and at the same time student of Bible prophecy recognize that Iran is setting the stage for those prophecies to be fulfilled. An Islamic website in Saudi Arabia has published a document titled, "How to kill a Crusader on the Arabian Peninsula", which actually details several possible ways to kill Western victims and provides steps on selecting the victim, following them, and finally murdering the non-Muslim victim.
The document notes that foreigners these days feel safer because of a minimal number of attacks in recent times, but warns that the Jihadist wave is approaching.

Speculation of an Iranian initiated apocalypse did not materialize
August 22nd was thought to be the day that Iranian President Ahmadinejad would spark the apocalypse in order to usher in the Islamic messiah. This apocalyptic speculation based on Ahmadinejad's own End of Days inclinations in which the hidden Iman returns amidst the ultimate triumph of good over evil.

Muslims around the world mark the day their prophet Mohammad ascended into Heaven from the Temple Mount in Jerusalem
August 22nd is the day that the Islamic world marks on its calendar that the Muslim prophet Mohammad ascended on his horse into the seventh heaven from the Temple Mount in Jerusalem to meet with the Islamic god, Allah.

This tradition has been disputed by Jews and Christians as a total impossibility; however, it does leave the location of the rock on the Temple Mount as a very controversial site for all three of the major faiths: Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. Personally, I believe the story to be totally false, but it does bring into play a prophecy written 2,500 years ago by Zechariah. The ancient Jewish prophet said that Jerusalem, i.e. the Temple Mount, would be the center of controversy and intoxication to those who control the site and a very heavy burden in the Last Days, that's Zechariah 12:2-3. Scientists have found with first of its kind core samples dug up from the deep beneath the Arctic Ocean floor that 55 million years ago, according to their estimates, an area near the North Pole was practically a subtropical paradise.
The scientists say their findings are a glimpse backward into a much warmer than thought polar region heated by runamuck greenhouse gases that came about naturally.

The Jewish settler population of the disputed territories in Judea and Samaria has grown to over 260,000
According to the Yesha Council of Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria, the number of Israelis living in the disputed territories has grown in the last 6 months to over 260,000. Yesha, which is the association of Jewish settlers, attributes this increase both to the natural growth as well as to Jews moving into these areas.
Yesha was encouraged by this growth which comes in spite of this time of political uncertainty over the future of the Jewish settlements in Judea and Samaria as a part of Prime Minister Olmert's unilateral withdrawal plan.

Iran has launched an exhibit of Holocaust cartoons that paves the road to genocide of Jews in Israel
A cartoon fair in Teheran was initiated by Iran as a test of Western tolerance. There, an exhibit of cartoons depicts the Holocaust, the slaughter of 6 million Jews, as a myth. Holocaust denial has been a theme of many of Iranian President Ahmadinejad's recent speeches.
Chairman of the Yad Vashem Council Tommy Lapid says that this exhibit is not only horrific propaganda that supports Holocaust denial, but it also paves the road to justify the genocide of the Jews in Israel.

A Palestinian official says the IDF's defeat in Lebanon marks the beginning of the end of Zionism
In the aftermath of the UN ceasefire imposed on Israel and Hezbollah, Palestinian officials are speaking out about the future. One such official is the Palestinian Authority Information Minister who said that "the war taught us that resistance should be a key factor in resolving the problems of Lebanon and Palestine."
The Palestinian official said the defeat of the Israeli Defense Force in Lebanon "marks the beginning of the end of the Zionist project." The Zionist project is the effort to bring Jews from around the world back to their homeland.

Israeli officials doubt that the shaky cease-fire in effect today will actually hold for very long.
The Israeli government says they intend to abide by the cease-fire that went into effect early Monday morning even though senior Israeli officials assume that Hizbullah will not honor it.
There are also questions as to whether Hizbullah will disarm in light of word coming out of Iran of the disappointment expressed by the ruling body, the Supreme Council, who is calling for Hizbullah to continue the fight.

There is still a major question as to whether Hizbullah will disarm and come under the United Nations peace-keeping force that is scheduled to move into the buffer zone south of the Litani River in Lebanon.

An Israeli official calls the UN ceasefire resolution a historic tragedy
A former foreign minister under Ariel Sharon's government, Silvan Shalom, has stinging criticism of the ceasefire plan formulated in the United Nations and he calls it a disgrace, and a historic tragedy that will mortgage Israel's future and cause his country to weep for generations.

The world war on terror intensifies as an airline terror plot is disrupted
According to Scotland in London, a plot to blow up planes in flight from the UK to the US and to commit mass murder on an unimaginable scale has been disrupted and the ongoing investigation has global dimensions as it relates to the worldwide war on terror.

There are reports of a dramatic increase in Anti-Semitic incidents around the world
The Jewish Agency, an international Jewish organization, says that reports it has received in recent days indicate a dramatic increase in the amount and severity of Anti-Semitic incidents around the world.
Anti-Israel protests have quickly deteriorated into Anti-Semitic events with protesters, unfurling Hezbollah flags and swastikas. The increase in Anti-Semitism has been noted in areas that have large numbers of Lebanese immigrants and Muslims. Religious leaders in Saudi Arabia say that Hezbollah is the party of Satan and Muslims should not pray for them
A senior Saudi Islamic figure, Sheikh Safar al Hawali, has issued a fatwa, a religious ruling, forbidding support of any kind for Hezbollah, which Hawali says is not the party of Allah, but the party of Satan.
Al Hawali's fatwa was joined by a fatwa issued by a Kuwaiti sheikh which condemned the imperialist aspirations of Iran by means of Hezbollah.

Tens of thousands gather in Baghdad for pro-Hezbollah rally
Even as senior US generals were warning that the spiraling sectarian violence in Baghdad could lead into a full blown civil war, tens of thousands of Shiite Muslim youth covered in white shrouds gathered in Iraq's capital city for a pro-Hezbollah rally.
Organizers said that about 250,000 people gathered waving Hezbollah yellow flags and chanting, "Death to Israel and death to America". The Shiite young people swarmed the streets of the Shiite dominated Sadr City, a suburb of Baghdad, dressed in white shrouds, a symbol of their willingness to die, many of these young people members of Muqtada Sadr's Mahdi army.

Thousands of Jews gathered at the Temple Mount in Jerusalem to pray for the Jewish Temple to be rebuilt
Because of intelligence reports of possible violence, Jerusalem police have closed the Temple Mount to all non-Muslim visitors as the nation of Israel marks the day Tish B'Av and the destruction of the two previous biblical Jewish Temples.
Intelligence reports had indicated that thousands of Muslims were planning to flock to the site to protect it from Jews who were planning to visit on Tish B'Av and possibly move to start reconstruction of the next Jewish Temple. Thousands of Jewish worshippers did gather at the seven gates leading up onto the Temple Mount to read the biblical book of Lamentations as they mourned the destruction of the previous two Jewish Temples and to pray for a rebuilt Temple to be on the Temple Mount next year on Tish B'Av.

This prayer will one day be answered when Jesus Christ returns to the earth, Zechariah 14:4, to the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem and He builds His Temple, Zechariah 6:12, where He will rule and reign for a thousand years, Zechariah 6:13. But, I must remind you there are two Temples in the future for the Jewish people: the one that Jesus Christ will build and the one that man will build during the seven year Tribulation Period as referred to in the book of Daniel 9:27, Matthew 24:15, II Thessalonians 2:4, and Revelation 11:2. The preparations for the next Temple have already been made, and there are those in Jerusalem ready to start construction of the next Temple.

Israeli government has an interactive website for new immigrants to learn Hebrew in their homes
The Immigrant Absorption Ministry of the Israeli government recently unveiled an interactive website, http://www.moia.gov.il/english/ivrit/ivrit1.htm, for new immigrants to learn Hebrew at their own pace and in their own homes, an initiative aimed at helping newcomers to improve their language skills.
The Israeli government hopes that the new Hebrew language website which has tabs for English, Russian, French, Spanish and Arabic speakers will be used by Jews around the world who plan to immigrate to Israel. The Israeli Minister of Immigrant Absorption said that it is of the utmost importance to strengthen the language skills of immigrants as a part of enabling them to be a part of the Israeli society.

Despite the war, the Israeli government is moving ahead to destroy Jewish homes in Judea and Samaria
On the day that marks the one year anniversary of the expulsion of over 9,000 Jews from their homes of over 30 years in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli government issued orders to demolish homes of Jewish settlers in Judea and Samaria even as the war rages and Hizbullah rockets fall on these areas.
One of the main themes of the anniversary events was the theme, "We will return to our communities," which sadly is what the Israeli Defense Force has had to do to defend the Jewish state from terrorist attacks being launched from the former Jewish settlements evacuated one year ago. At all of the events on this day of mourning and longing by the Jewish settlers is the slogan, "We told you so," referring to statements that bloodshed would follow the evacuation.
